I parked in the first parking lot for Pisgah Mountain off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Buck Springs trail is easily marked and is very easy for beginners. The overlook is only about 500 feet from the beginning of the trailhead. There are benches there and it is a nice place to sit and read.
If you keep going all the way to the Pisgah Inn parking lot, you have a gentle rise without any rocks and roots that are so common of surrounding trails. The round trip is only 2.3 miles with an elevation gain of only 361 feet.
The trail is littered with markers that mark historical sites (events). The brochure guide with marker explanations can be found at the Pisgah Inn (closed for the winter).
