Cat Gap Loop

This morning Phil and I hiked Cat Gap Loop. Having hiked this trail many times over the years, summer, fall, winter and spring, we were amazed at how muddy it was.  I guess boggy would be a more appropriate term. The trail was so boggy in places that it was really hard to keep our feet dry.

We hiked the loop clockwise. Down on the river there were groups of campers cooking their breakfast as we walked past.  I could smell the bacon and we could see the skillet full of scrambled eggs. It was hard to keep walking.

Just prior to finishing the hike, I got stung a couple of times on my elbow.  I never saw what stung me, though. I had on my long sleeved Exofficio Bug Off shirt, that didn’t keep that bug off. The bee/wasp/hornet either stung me through the fabric, or flew up underneath where my sleeves were rolled and stung it’s way out. When we got home, I put a can of Deep Woods Off in the car so that next hike, I will remember to use it.

I took some pictures of Spiked Lobelia and we finished our hike in 2 hours and 12 minutes.

Life is short, smile while you still have teeth.
