February Ski Trip at the North 40

Phil and Sandy at Bridger Bowl Bridger Bowl, Bozeman, MT

We had an awesome time skiing with friends in Bozeman at The Bridger Bowl. It is approx. an hour drive from the North 40 so we don’t need to pay for accommodations. The ski resort is municipal, owned by the city of Bozeman. Driving up to the resort from our house is one of the prettiest views in the world.

The Bridge Bowl is on one side of the Bridger Mountain range where we have hiked up to Sacajawea Peak in the summer months. It is only 16 miles from Main Street in Bozeman.  Awesome …

Staying at the house gave us an opportunity to drive to the Little Belt Mountains and ski a small ski resort called Showdown. While there, I skied over a little lip that is rated as a black slope. That is a western black slope …   Here I go … over the wall …

North 40
Anyway. The temperatures were a lot warmer than usual. Up on the slopes, it stayed below freezing, so we had good snow, but the snow was melting away down at the house as you can see in the picture to the right. The silver lining was that the snow drifts on the road to our house had melted enough to drive all the way to the house without having it plowed.

Snowshoe HareOur on our way out to the airport, we spotted a snowshoe hare. Here he is on the road in front of the house.  He doesn’t seem to be very nervous over our presence. This little guy (relatively speaking) wasn’t very big. He looks a little lean too, I guess because of the winter months and lack of food.  The first snowshoe hare we ever saw out there was a huge.  He jumped up out of the sage and scared us to death. Fun times!

Life is short, smile while you still have teeth.
