Business and holidays have kept my blog posts from happening. This year, the only resolution that I want to make is to keep up the blog with pictures of the grands and posts about each hike.
I will be adding a few posts with pictures from the holidays to catch up but right now, I want to make sure I log my first 2 hikes of 2014.
Daniel Ridge Loop…Sunday, January 5, 2014
Phil and I finally got a weather window allowing us to get out in the woods. We hiked the Daniel Ridge Loop counterclockwise. It was a nice brisk walk and it felt really good to get outside. The temperature was in the mid 40’s with sunshine, the perfect hiking weather.
Bennet Gap Loop…Sunday, January 12, 2014
We parked on the Avery Creek Forestry road near Brevard and began our hike clockwise up Bennet Gap Trail. It was a bluebird day with temperatures in the upper 40’s. The beginning of the trail down along the creek was icy, but that soon gave way as we climbed higher.
We intersected the Coon Tree Loop Trail after climbing about 500 feet and continued on hiking the ridgetop to Perry Cove Trail. We love running ridges in the winter. The views are longer and you can see the lay of the land with all of the bumps and hollows. Perry Cove Trail is really steep going down. It was a really great day in the neighborhood.
